About The Art of Coopering
Alex Stewart at 84 yrs. old.
Here my Grandfather is making a churn stave with a drawknife. No nails or glue are used in our woodworking, and everything is made by hand. The churns, barrels, piggins, tubs, staved bowls, pitchers, cups, wooden forks and spoons, chairs, and more where made out of cedar, with white oak bands. My Grandfather could make anything out of wood using all different kinds of wood.He would also carve things out of wood like minature scrub brooms, boots and shoes, wooden dolls, and pocket knives. Of more than 80 decendents my Grandfather had, I was the only one fortunate enough to learn the art of Coopering from him.
